The Government of India launched “Namami Gange” as an Integrated Conservative Mission Programme in the year 2015. The Namami Gange programme is an umbrella programme that covers the previously sanctioned ongoing projects as well as the projects in new components with a multi-sector mandate to address both water quality and water quantity issues. The programme aims at integrating previous and currently ongoing initiatives by enhancing efficiency, extracting synergies and supplementing them with more comprehensive and better-coordinated interventions.
