In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Forest (Conservation) Act,1980 (69 of 1980), and in suppression of the Forest (Conservation) Rules, 1981 except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such suppression, the Central Government hereby makes the following rules namely:

These rules may be called the Forest (Conservation) Rules, 2003. They shall extend to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir. They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

This Act may be called the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, of 1988. It shall come into force on such sate as the Central Government may, by notification in the official Gazette appoint.
