In continuation of this, it has now been decided that the use of plastic waste is mandatory in the wearing coat of Service Roads and Slip Roads throughout National Highways apart from in periodical renewal coat of main carriageway on National Highways within 50 km periphery of the urban area having population more than 5 lakhs.

In case a footpath is provided on the bridge, carriageway and paved shoulders shall be carried on the bridge deck placing the footpath (1.5m clear) on the outer edge of the paved shoulder with a crash barrier (0.45m) on the inner side and a railing (0.375m) on the outer side. Lines and, rides of the paved shoulder, median edges, carriageway on bridges and approaches shall be matched for safety and efficient traffic movement.

National Highway assets in top order & free from encroachments, potholes, waste material, etc., the said clauses are required to be exercised strictly. The Regional Officers/Project Directors/Nodal 0fficers of all the implementing agencies shall ensure penal action as per the contract provisions in case of failure. The concerned agencies should take this on priority and for monitoring purposes, a weekly report on action taken may be sent to Additional Secretary (Highways), to monitor action being taken.
